From the moment I wrote it, in May 2018, WAIT FOR ME had its own unique creative path.
In January 2020, we got the green light to start the movie's pre-production, scheduled to be shot 3 months later. In February, coming
back from the Berlin's Film Festival with a good option for a co-production, we had to shut down due to the first
Covid-19's lockdown.
During the next 2 months of uncertainty, we hold our production meetings via Zoom and finally decided to do it on our own. It was the only way to be able to shoot this movie during the pandemic.
We started shooting in September, as planned, but after only 3 days of filming, the second lockdown caught us by surprise. We had to stop everything and it was a hard time for the whole crew, not knowing when we'd come back to shooting and how.
It took another one and a half months of nerve-racking "patience" before we could start getting ready, again, for the third time. In November 2020, we started the shooting of the remaining 13 days, a complicated production especially because it depended a lot on the weather at sea we couldn't control. Some days the planned scenes were cancelled because the waves were too high to safely sail. And some days were just as tough as it is always on a set, especially when shooting a feature movie in 16 days on a low budget.
All this time we kept in mind the main goal – to bring the story to life and shoot the best movie possible. And in our heart, we felt the joy of experiencing one of the most incredible shooting journeys.
At the end of November 2020, we finished the shooting – a big united family of new sailors, loving the sea and cinema's magic more than ever. In December 2020, I started the editing – but that is another story.
Thank you to all the people who helped me achieve my dream. Thank you to my team, the best crew ever that a captain could have. And let's see now where WAIT FOR ME will take us from here
WAIT FOR ME will have its first international premiere on October 15, 2022, in Warsaw.
